WHAT IS IT?
A conference directed towards members and board members of Slow Food
who wish to grow and develop local chapters and the mission of Slow Food in the Southeastern Region.
If you have questions to attend, please contact Jan Wesley, Slow Food Upstate Chapter Leader and Slow Food USA Regional Governor for NC SC and VA or Steve Case, chapter leader Charlotte Chapter.  Come for the day on Saturday if you can't stay overnight.

Join us in Charlotte, North Carolina for a regional gathering of Slow Food Chapter Leaders, Board members, and Volunteers. Together with members of the SFUSA leadership team and Regional Governors we will connect with fellow regional members, enhance leadership skills, dwell on biodiversity, and tell stories (some of which may be true.)

Please forward this email to all board members of your chapter today, and encourage them to attend together. We promise to provide a powerful weekend of learning and strengthening your team, and plenty of time for what we all treasure...delicious food, fun, and banter shared together.

 

Friday evening: January 24th

  • Registration/Meet & Greet cocktails arrival

Saturday: January 25th

  • 9:00 -12:30 Greetings - Biodiversity discussion - guest speakers
  • 12:30 - 2:00 break and lunch
  • 2:00 - 3:30 Regional topics and conversation
  • 3:30 - 5:30 outside activities - Friendship Gardens tour or Urban Farm Tour@ Garinger High school
  • 7:00 - Dinner
  • 8:00 -Until - Entertainment begins for the evening

Sunday: January 26th

  • 9:00 till Noon - continued regional meetings and Slow Food USA close



Speakers include: Dr. David Shields, author, historian, Chairman of the Carolina Gold Rice Foundation  and Chairperson for the Slow Food SE Region Ark of Taste nomination committee.

Creighton Lee Calhoun, Jr. author and expert "Old Southern Apples"

And Special Guest, Nat Bradford who tells his story of the Bradford Watermelon's journey to the Ark of Taste. If supplies last, try a taste of the Pickled Watermelon Rinds, delicious!

Alan Perry is a certified crop adviser, certified professional agronomist, and owner of Farm Technologies Network (FTN). Based in Maine, FTN is experienced in working with growers on soil fertility issues in 26 US states and in 15 countries on more than 40 different crops. As a 5th generation farmer, Alan is knowledgeable in all aspects of farm ownership, management, marketing, crop production, and equipment operation. Alan’s practical knowledge and expertise go beyond traditional methods to include innovative and sustainable strategies for all types of farm operations.

Slow Meat 2014

June 20–22 in Denver, Colorado
Consumers, ranchers, animal welfare advocates, chefs and butchers come together to discuss the barriers that prevent us from moving our animal agriculture system from fast to slow, and find ways to overcome them. This gathering will feature a tasting event and plenary presentation. Tickets available in April 2014.
