Cultivating a Better Food System-an evening talk by Danielle Nierenberg – 7:30 PM Burgiss Theater on Thursday, March 14th. Burgiss Theater is the student movie theater on Furman’s campus located in the Trone Student Center down next to the lake. There is parking in the lot next to the student center.
Danielle Nierenberg is the Co-founder of Food Tank (http://foodtank.org/), an international nonprofit focused on global food systems, and is a Senior Fellow with Worldwatch Institute, an international environmental think tank in Washington DC. She is an expert on sustainable agriculture and food issues and recently spent two years traveling to more than 35 countries across sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Latin America meeting with farmers and farmers’ groups, scientists and researchers, policymakers and government leaders, students and academics, and journalists collecting their thoughts on what’s working to help alleviate hunger and poverty, while also protecting the environment. She will be sharing her experiences and thoughts and talking about her new non-profit organization the Food Think Tank.
The event is sponsored by Furman’s Student Environmental Action Group and the Shi Center for Sustainability.
